Online Counselling! A New Service Coming To Seachange Psychology In Cairns.

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

Here at Seachange Psychology in Cairns, we are very excited to announce that we will soon be offering online counselling.   This is an exciting new service which enables people to access a qualified and experienced psychologist (Crispian Jones) online, from the comfort of their home.  With one out of four women and one in six men suffering from depression at some stage in their lives, accessibility has never been more important.

What Is Online Counselling?

Online therapy is a relatively new development in mental health in which a psychologist provides therapy and support over the internet. There are a range of different programs that are used to provide this service such as Skype or Zoom.  At Seachange Psychology, we use iCouch which is HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) approved. This means that all of our information is highly protected. iCouch allows people to attend their counselling session from the comfort of their home.  The session is conducted just like a regular counselling session and people are able to see, hear and interact with their psychologist just as they would in a face to face session.

What are the benefits of online therapy?

Online therapy has become a popular option for many people for a number of reasons.

  • It is easily accessible and people can receive therapy and support from anywhere in the world as long as they have an internet connection, computer, tablet or phone.
  • People don’t need to worry about how they will get to therapy if they don’t have a car or mode of transport.
  • It saves people time as they don’t need to allow time to travel to their psychologist.
  • People can avoid bumping into other people they know in the waiting room.
  • Some people get anxious about visiting a psychologist or seeking treatment and support.  With iCouch, they can feel more comfortable in their own home.
  • No waiting for appointments!

Who is online therapy suitable for?

Any condition that can be treated with face to face therapy can be treated with online therapy.  This includes mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, pain management and anger management. However, there are some situations where online counselling is not appropriate. Is someones life was in danger through self-harming behaviour or they were threatening to hurt others, online therapy would not be suitable.

Online therapy is making counselling more accessible to people suffering from mental health problems such as anxiety and depression which is becoming a common problem in our society.  Many people that suffer from mental health illness fail to seek treatment and support because they have been misdiagnosed or cannot access treatment.  Once diagnosed, those suffering from depression or anxiety benefit from additional support and therapy which can now be accessed from anywhere in the world.  Contact Crispian Jones at Seachange Psychology in Cairns to find out more about our online therapy service on ph 07 4041 4147.

Relationship Counselling Cairns Can Help You To Trust Your Partner Again

Monday, July 10th, 2017

Often a relationship can become quite toxic if there has been an incident where one partner has lied to the other.

With the word “Lie” often being watered down and called a fib or in some cases someone can lie simply by omitting the truth.

Often when someone is caught out in a lie they tend to justify the lie by saying that they did not want to hurt the partner.

Sometimes the partner that has lied, will turn the situation around and say that they lied to avoid the fuss that would result, therefore inferring that the offended partner is at fault for daring questioning something that seemed odd.

All of this can be very upsetting and confusing to the person who is being lied to, whether a big lie or little fib, people must be able to trust what is said by their partner.

Make Time For Relationship Counselling Cairns

When a relationship gets into trouble over trust issues, there is a very real threat that the relationship will end.

This is when a professional third party can make a lot of difference, not so much as a mediator, but as a trained and qualified practitioner who is able to help each of the couple to actually listen to and hear what is being by their partner.

It is also important that what is being said to someone, is actually understood by the person listening.

Often one person can say something in a way that seems to mean something else entirely, and this is another contentious issue for the partner who is trying to listen and understand.

These conversations are fraught with problems and usually end up with an argument that compounds the original issue.

Your relationship is important and therefore you need to take the time to get some professional counselling which can help you get your lives back on track.

Work Things Out With Relationship Counselling Cairns

Monday, June 19th, 2017

During the course of a relationship some couples may reach a point where it seems that they just do not get each other anymore.

Usually this is a result of poor communication and it can breed very quickly if not addressed properly.

When a couple do not communicate with each other they may start to create unrealistic scenarios in their mind as to what is wrong in the relationship or why their partner is behaving in a particular way.

Sometimes a spouse will feel unloved or misunderstood when their loved one is not being affectionate or not engaging in meaningful conversation.

This can create further angst between the couple, especially if one person asks “what is the matter?” and then get told that nothing is wrong, when obviously something is not right between them.

Reopen The Lines Of Communication With Help From Relationship Counselling Cairns

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017

Most people who are in a relationship want it to be happy and loving for both.

When couples have been in a relationship for many years, they can easily make the mistake of assuming that they know everything about their partner from their taste in food right through to their political views.

However this is not always the case, because people grow and change as time passes.

Sometimes in a relationship, the couple can grow apart because they simply feel that they do not know or understand their partner anymore.

People need to be aware of what is happening in their relationship and understand who their partner is and what changes they may be going through.

Understanding your partner does not necessarily mean knowing every single movement they make or conversation they may have during their day.

Being able to understand your partner is paramount in any relationship and made easier with good communication.

Of course it needs to be said that a lack of communication in a relationship can lead to a lack of understanding which usually ends up in arguments.

In situations where couples argue when trying to discuss something that is becoming an issue in their relationship, one or both parties will feel they are not being heard or understood.

Often an argument can end with someone getting the silent treatment, and of course this is not good for a healthy relationship.

Seeking Help With Crispian Jones And Relationship Counselling Cairns

Sometimes there may be issues in a relationship where a person feels they cannot mention these issues to their partner without causing an upset or argument.

It may be a breach of trust in a relationship that has left a person feeling vulnerable and suspicious in needing answers from their partner to particular questions that may bring up the event again.
Of course the person who broke the trust of their partner will want to avoid any discussion and move forward, not realising that their partner is still trying to process the betrayal.

In situations where there are issues in your relationship that are difficult or painful to talk to each other about, consider seeing a psychologist for some couples relationship counselling.
